About our Chairman, Steve Thompson
I have been involved in the Gala at Hunslet in some way or another for over 20 years, it was in 2004 that the existing format changed into a new Community Gala format to enable more involvement by other people and other community organisations. Since then the encompasing organisation has become Hunslet Festival and the Community Gala being the major event of the year with other other events and activities happening throughout the year.
I have been in the Telecomms Indusrty for all of my working life, starting at BT as an apprentice and moving to the world of Cable TV and Telephone in 1994.
I was educated locally in South Leeds at Hunslet Hall Road, Bewerley Street and Matthew Murray Schools, and was a sponsored by BT to attend Leeds Metro Uni, (formally known as Leeds Poly) to gain a B.Eng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering and consequently to become a Chartered Electrical Engineer.
